How to add a weather widget on iPhone

A widget shows the weather on your Home Screen or Lock Screen so you can read it without opening an app. The steps below are Apple’s and were checked on September 19, 2026.

Add a widget to the Home Screen

1. Touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen until the apps begin to jiggle.
2. Tap Edit, then tap Add Widget.
3. Scroll or search for the weather app you want, such as Bold Weather or Weather.
4. Swipe through the sizes and tap Add Widget.
5. Drag the widget where you want it, then tap Done.

Add a widget to the Lock Screen

1. Touch and hold the Lock Screen until the Customize button appears, then tap Customize.
2. Tap the Lock Screen, then tap the area below the clock.
3. Tap or drag the weather widget you want, then tap Done.

Lock Screen widgets are small, so they show one or two numbers. Choose the one with the temperature or the chance of rain, whichever you check most.

Choose a size you can read

• A small widget fits the temperature and a word about the sky.
• A medium widget adds the high and low and a short summary.
• A large widget adds the next few hours.

If you use larger text, the medium size is usually the easiest to read, because the temperature stays large without the small hourly numbers.

Check the widget after changing text size

Widgets follow the iPhone text size in apps that support it. After changing your text size, look at the widget again and make sure the numbers still fit. If they do not, choose the next size up.

What this means for Bold Weather
