Alerts you can read and trust

When the National Weather Service, Environment Canada, or another official agency issues an alert for one of your locations, Bold Weather shows it at the top of the screen, in large type, with the agency named.

An alert is only useful if you can read it and know where it came from. Bold Weather does both.

Where alerts come from

Alerts are issued by the official weather agency for your location. In the United States that is the National Weather Service. In Canada it is Environment and Climate Change Canada. In the United Kingdom it is the Met Office. Bold Weather shows the alert title, the agency, the time it takes effect, the time it ends, and the full text, and it never rewrites the official wording.

How an alert looks

  • A colored band at the top of the main screen with the alert title in large type
  • The agency name and the times, in the same clear type
  • A short plain-language note below the title, such as “A warning means the weather is happening or about to happen. Take action now.”
  • The full official text one tap away

Watches, warnings, and advisories

The agencies use a small set of words with specific meanings. A watch means conditions are possible. A warning means they are expected or happening. An advisory means conditions call for caution. The guide to weather alerts on iPhone explains the words and how to turn on notifications.

Heat and cold

Heat advisories, extreme heat warnings, cold weather advisories, and extreme cold warnings are alerts like any other, and Bold Weather shows them the same way. Because they matter for planning a walk or a day out, the daily summary also mentions them in plain words, such as “Heat advisory this afternoon. Stay out of the sun from noon to 6 PM.” The guides explain heat advisories and wind chill and cold advisories.

Notifications

Bold Weather can send a notification when a new alert is issued for one of your saved locations. Notifications use the same large type as the app and can be turned on for each location separately.
