Hear the forecast

Tap Speak and Bold Weather reads the temperature, the summary, and any alert aloud. Every screen also works with VoiceOver.

The Speak button

The Speak button sits at the top of the main screen. Tap it once and the app reads the current temperature, the description of the sky, today’s high and low, the summary sentence, and any alert in effect. Tap it again to stop.

Speak uses the iPhone’s built-in voices, so it works without a connection once the forecast has loaded. The speaking rate and the voice follow your iPhone settings under Accessibility, then Spoken Content. The app also has its own speaking rate control for people who want the forecast faster or slower than other spoken content.

VoiceOver

VoiceOver reads the same words in the same order. Every number has a label that says what it is, so the temperature reads as “72 degrees, current temperature” and the high reads as “high 78 degrees,” not as a bare number. Icons have labels in words, so a cloud reads as “Partly cloudy,” not “image.”

Controls have names and hints. The radar’s play button reads as “Play radar.” The location picker reads as a list of your saved places.

Larger text and VoiceOver together

Many people use larger text and VoiceOver at the same time, or switch between them. Bold Weather keeps the layout stable at every text size so the reading order stays the same, and it never hides a control at a larger size.
