Weather with large text
If you use a larger text size on your iPhone, you have probably found apps that ignore it. Bold Weather follows your setting through the largest accessibility sizes and never caps the type.
The settings the app follows
- Text size. The temperature, the summary, the lists, and the alerts all grow with the iPhone text size, including the five larger accessibility sizes.
- Bold Text. When Bold Text is on, the app’s type gets heavier, including the numbers.
- Increase Contrast. Colors get stronger and the sky-colored backgrounds become plain.
- Reduce Transparency and Reduce Motion. Backgrounds are solid and the radar does not animate unless you press play.
- Zoom. The layout stays readable when the whole screen is magnified, because the important numbers are at the top and the left.
The iPhone text-size guide explains where each setting is.
What happens at the largest sizes
At the largest accessibility sizes, most apps run out of room and start hiding things. Bold Weather changes its layout instead. The temperature stays on its own line, the high and low move onto separate lines, and the hourly list shows one hour per row with the time and the temperature stacked. No control is hidden and the reading order stays the same.
Contrast
The main screen uses near-black type on white, with a deep blue for links and controls. The sun-colored card behind the temperature is pale so the numbers stay dark on light. Weather colors on the radar are chosen to stay distinct for people with color vision deficiency, and the legend is in words.
Low vision and VoiceOver together
Many people with low vision use large text most of the time and VoiceOver some of the time. Bold Weather labels every number and icon, so switching to VoiceOver on a bright day or in the car reads the same forecast in the same order. The read aloud feature covers Speak and VoiceOver.
Try it at your size
Bold Weather is testing on TestFlight for iPhone. Try the beta at the text size you use every day, and tell us where the type could be clearer. The website preview compares three sizes in the same forecast card.
